The Dangerous Delusion of Pet Gender Identity: Why We Must Reject This Pseudoscientific Trend

🚨 The Dangerous Delusion of Pet Gender Identity 🐾

As a professional in canine behavior, I must address the alarming trend of applying human gender identity concepts to pets. The notion that "misgendering" a pet can cause "serious microsubconscious distress" and that pets communicate their "gender identity" through toy preferences or clothing reactions is not only scientifically baseless but also potentially harmful to the well-being of the animals in our care.

When we project human constructs like gender identity onto pets, we risk misinterpreting their behaviors and failing to meet their true needs. By focusing on "affirming" a presumed gender identity, pet owners may overlook genuine sources of distress and neglect evidence-based care. As responsible guardians, we must prioritize our pets' well-being over human social agendas and treat them as the unique animals they are. 🙏💡

The Lament of the Veterinary Industry: A Cry for Help

The Lament of the Veterinary Industry: A Cry for Help

The bond between humans and pets has transcended generations and remains a cornerstone of compassion and companionship. However, this cherished connection faces an imminent threat due to the mounting problems within the veterinary industry. Behind the scenes, the veterinary industry struggles to keep up with the increasing demand for care. The overworked and stressed veterinarians find themselves trapped in a relentless cycle, resulting in excruciatingly long wait times and, tragically, often wrong diagnoses.

Why dogs are not wolves - humans changed the dog’s brain

Why dogs are not wolves - humans changed the dog’s brain

In our long and intricate history with the Canis Lupus Familiaris or modern dog, humans have shaped the physical appearance of dogs through selective breeding. Over time, we have selectively bred them for specific traits, resulting in a remarkable range of dog breeds with distinctive appearances. Humans have created a variation of different phenotypes resulting in dogs like the Yorkshire Terrier to the Great Dane. Although the dog showed many phenotypical differences, genetically they are almost identical and have close residual DNA of his ancestor the wolf. However, dogs are not wolves, our influence extends far beyond their external features.

Lack of Breeding Standards causes hereditary diseases in DOGS!

Lack of Breeding Standards causes hereditary diseases in DOGS!

Breeding dogs or breeding pets for that matter is a very serious business. One that requires knowledge about genetics and behavioral traits in order to positively contribute to the betterment of the species or breed. Unfortunately most breeders are in it for the “easy money”, while other are genuinely thinking they are doing a “good job’ while in fact they are one of the main factors in the declination of breed health. Neutering- the number one cause of aggression problems in dogs.

Neutering- the number one cause of aggression problems in dogs.

Yesterday someone reached out for help with an adolescent male German Shepherd that had launched at someone and bitten a person. When I gave her a possible date to come over for an evaluation she mentioned that on that day the dog would get neutered, an advice she got from her veterinarian to reduce and avoid any aggressive behaviors in the future.

I was very disappointed to hear that as over the last 15 years research has proven that neutering and spaying have the opposite effect. Neutering male dogs causes more behavioral problems ( Dr. Coren 2018) Unfortunately veterinarians today still advice this very outdated procedure to “solve” aggression and over-excitement based behavioral problems. I believe the reason for that is two fold. The main reason is outdated schooling at the current Vet-University programs who often still teach practices and protocols established in the 1960s. Another reason is the money, neutering and spaying is an easy and quick buck in their pocket. -READ MORE
